On Sunday 31 August, I had the chance to participate in the Japanese Language Teacher’s Association of Victoria (JLTAV) Speech Competition with May (Year 10), Bahar and Sora (Year 9).  The event, held at the Hawthorn Arts Centre, saw many students from both government and private schools all around Victoria competing in both the individual and pair divisions.

Sora was the first to compete in the Open Individual Division. Although he was the only one in his division, he did a great job showcasing his speeches. Next, Bahar competed in the Year 9 & 10 Individual Division, doing an amazing job with both her set and original speeches.

May and I competed together in the Year 9 & 10 Pair Division. We were excited to present our speeches. Even though we didn’t finish in the top three, it was still an enjoyable experience to see and hear all the wonderful speeches from the other students and witness their hard work come to fruition. Thank you to Kumakawa Sensei for helping us prepare for this event and attending with us on the day!
