From Monday 2 August – Thursday 5 August, I was lucky enough to participate in rehearsals and a closed door recording of MWSC Production of Seussical the Musical. The 16 piece orchestra that I had the privilege of conducting, was made up of staff, alumni and current students. A production such as this offers an amazing opportunity for musicians to work in a professional environment, learning challenging and beautiful music. As a musical director, it is a rewarding experience to work with these talented musicians and I would like to take this opportunity to thank them for donating their time to this wonderful production.
It is wonderful to see the musical journey of MWSC students continue despite the current restrictions. Over the past week, I have heard, and seen some wonderful musical performances and achievements via digital means. The music students at the college are highly committed and have been attending lessons via Google Meet, participating in recordings, and attending rehearsals – conducted in a variety of ways. The students continue to improve their musical skills and engage in practice to improve weekly.
Congratulations to the music staff at the college, and these students for continuing to demonstrate resilience and flexibility.
Over the past three weeks 2021 College Music Captains, Lesedi M, Chris R and myself have organised a series of remote lunchtime music concerts to present to the college community. Featuring VCE students, music leaders and alumni, these concerts have been well attended, and feedback from staff, students and parents has been enthusiastic and positive. Thank you to all who have participated in the concerts, if you were unable to attend, there are links to the recordings on the MWSC Music Website.
