It has been wonderful to see lessons begin at the college this week. With 300 instrumental students enrolled, both campus Music Centres are busy places. Lesson times will appear on Compass to help students remember the time of the music lesson and the day that they need to bring their instrument.
A reminder that lessons for Years 7-10 take place on a rotational basis during the school day. While teachers have some flexibility to change lesson times due to clashes with a CAT, this is limited. As per the contract sign upon enrollment, the fee covers 30 lessons per year and allows for school activities and teacher illness.
Music Instrument store rooms are located on both campuses’ for secure storage during the school day. Students are required to take instruments home each afternoon and not leave instruments overnight.
Ensembles will begin the the weeks to follow. All instrumental students will be placed in a college ensemble. We appreciate the support of parents in getting the students to a rehearsal each week as it is an integral part of learning a musical instrument. Bands and Orchestras, while improving instrumental skills, also allow students to develop skills in leadership and teamwork. Non attendance in these groups lets the team down.
We have an exciting year planned for music and I look forward to hearing our musicians go from strength to strength through music.
