A Cybersafety information evening for parents and carers

Mount Waverley Secondary College is proud to present this informative and entertaining session from Australia’s foremost cybersafety expert, Susan McLean.  Delivered with a ‘no nonsense approach, this presentation will cover the positive benefits to technology as well as what parents need to be aware of to keep children safe online, including:

  • What kids are doing online
    Popular social networking sites and apps such as Secret Calculator, Tik Tok, Instagram and Yubo as well as live streaming sites
  • Online grooming
    What it is, when and how it occurs, warning signs and what to do if you suspect this is happening to your child
  • Cyberbullying
    What it is, where it happens, what it looks like, how to prevent it, what to do if it occurs, and the legal consequences and the possible criminal charges
  • Sharing nudes
    The taking and sharing of explicit images, and the social, emotional and legal consequences
  • Problematic internet and gaming use
  • Top Tips
    How to assist the children in your care to stay safe via restrictions passcodes and parental controls
  • Q & A
    The session will conclude with time for questions

 

Susan McLean was the first Victoria Police Officer appointed to a position involving cybersafety.  She is a highly sought-after presenter and advisor to schools, elite sporting bodies and both state and federal governments.
