Junior Campus Principal’s Update
Welcome back to Term 2
Welcome back to all students, parents and carers to our second term of learning for the year. This term always promises to be busy with sport, production rehearsals and NAPLAN, to name just a few things. Towards the latter part of the term students will receive a semester report which will give them an indication of their progress and also provide information to help with future learning in the second part of the year.
Year 7 Camp
The Year 7 Camp was held during the last week of Term 1, the whole year level headed to Camp Coonawarra near Bairnsdale, where they participated in a range of activities including flying fox, giant swing and canoeing. The camp also provided a great opportunity for Year 7 students to further develop friendships and create new networks of friends. Thanks must go to all of our staff who supported this camp.
Year 8 Challenge Program
While the Year 7s were on camp the Challenge Program provided Year 8 students with an opportunity to step outside their comfort zone. Activities included rock climbing, a Reptile Encounter and hip hop dancing which certainly “challenged” our students. Thank you to our staff who supported this program across the week.

Discovery – Open Day 2017 – What a Success!
The College Open Day on Thursday 27 April was a huge success with large numbers attending tours throughout the course of the day on both campuses, and visiting the Junior Campus after 4.00pm.
With well over 300 prospective parents and students touring the Junior and Senior Campuses shows a high level of interest in our college. Open Night saw many families who toured the school during day returning to engage in the activities on offer.
Hundreds of information folders were handed out to current and prospective parents during the day and evening containing information about what Mount Waverley Secondary College offers, as well as a copy of the current Enrolment Policy.
Our college staff spent the last few weeks working with students to establish the outstanding displays and organising the many practical demonstrations which took place. As I took some of the tour groups around the Junior Campus during the morning, I was proud of the way the students enthusiastically showcased their work and talents, and the positive relationships exhibited between members of the college community.
I would like to recognise our Junior Campus Student Leaders who conducted tours in the evening. These students are to be congratulated for the mature and professional way they conducted these tours. Thank you also to our Senior Campus Student Leaders who also supported this process. Many parents and members of the public commented to staff on how our tour leaders were knowledgeable, friendly, courteous and great role models for younger students.
Thank you to all students and staff who contributed to making Open Day and Night a great success showcasing our college as the “College of Choice.”
There will be further tours over the coming weeks, please see the website to book in for these tours.
Attitudes to School Survey
Feedback is an important part of learning and growth within schools. The Attitudes to School Survey is an annual survey conducted by the department to provide schools with valuable feedback on how they are performing from a student’s perspective. The survey has been revamped this year and was also available in an online format which we trialled. The survey was recently completed by all year levels, covering a range of areas including Learning and Teaching, Relationships and the Learning Environment. We look forward to seeing the results later this year which will help with our ongoing school improvement work.
