Lions Club Youth of the Year Competition

Michael, Stephanie, Jessalyn and Demitri from Year 11, represented the college at the Lions Youth of The Year dinner on Wednesday 28 February. They entered the public speaking competition and did an incredible job. The competition involved giving a 5 minute prepared speech as well as being asked to respond to two impromptu questions. Demitri, was the overall winner and will advance to the next round of the competition. Special thanks Ms Hayley Dureau, Ms Amanda Reed, Mr Simon Bartlett and Mr Bill Thomas for attending the event to support our students and their families.

Mount Waverley Secondary College alive with the Sound of Music!

This year the college has an amazing 300 students participating in the music program.  They are committed to a gruelling training schedule which results in these students showcasing their incredible talents in the 3 concert bands, 2 stage bands, 3 string orchestras, 4 guitar ensembles, 2 choirs, a rock band, percussion ensemble, clarinet ensemble, production band and flute ensemble.

Our Learning Community looks forward to attending and enjoying many performances provided by these students through the year.  This fantastic music program is a tribute to the hard work and talent of our dedicated instrumental and music teachers.

Swimming Success

On Friday 2 March our college swim team travelled to Aquanation in Ringwood for the District Swimming Sports.  I am pleased to announce that Mount Waverley Secondary College were the overall winners for the third year in a row.  The students achieved some fantastic results and we finished first in both the Junior and Intermediate Shields and second in the Senior Shield.

Congratulations to all of the students who swam on the day and special thanks to our Sports Coordinators Mr Matt Cara and Mr Danny Gwynne for supporting our team on the day.

Working Bee – Sunday 18 March

I am looking forward to seeing many parents, friends and students at our first Working Bee for 2018 on Sunday 18 March between 9.00am and 12 noon on the Junior Campus.  This is an opportunity for parents to establish a strong sense of belonging to our learning community and to show their children how much they value the wonderful educational opportunities Mount Waverley Secondary College has to offer.

If you have some spare time on this day your contribution would be greatly appreciated.  At the conclusion of the working bee a sausage sizzle will be provided to reward participants for their efforts.
