2018 Year 7 Information Evening
It was wonderful to see over 600 parents and students attend our 2018 Year 7 Information Evening on Tuesday 21 November. I spoke about what skills, attributes and strategies I would want my child to develop at school and encouraged the new Year 7 students to get involved in the many opportunities and extra curricula activities on offer at Mount Waverley Secondary College. I left the students with a quote from Dr Seuss “You’re off to great places, today is your day. Your mountain is waiting, so get on your way!”

Congratulations to Ms Hayley Dureau, our Head of Student Voice, who was awarded with the George Alexander Foundation International Fellowship at an awards night held on Tuesday 21 November. This fellowship will enable Hayley to undertake applied research in the areas of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) education, as well as Student Voice and its potential to improve student outcomes.
Xin Jin Shan Chinese Language and Culture School
Congratulations to the Xin Jin Shan Chinese Language and Culture School who celebrated their 25th anniversary this year. Mount Waverley has had a very close relationship with the school which began at our college 24 years ago. On Friday 24 November Mr Andrew Batchelor – Assistant Principal and I had the pleasure of attending a dinner with staff, students, parents and other official guests to celebrate this important occasion and we presented Mr Sun – founder of the school, with a commemorative plaque on behalf of our college.
Victorian Senior Leadership Awards
On Monday 27 November I had the pleasure of attending the Victorian Senior Leadership Awards to see our 2017 College Captain Neha S being presented with a VCE Leadership Award. Neha was one of only seven students in the State who received this award which was an outstanding achievement. She is a committed social activist who used her community service efforts to drive awareness and amplify the voices of others. Congratulations Neha.
2018 Early Commencement
Our whole school rolled over to our 2018 timetable this week and our 2017 Year 8 students have begun classes on the Senior Campus. Early Commencement is a great way for students to get a head start on their studies for next year. At our Senior Campus assembly I encouraged students to complete set homework and read their texts before returning to school next year.
