Principal for a Day
On Monday 4 September, the college took part in ACER’s Principal for a Day Program. Dr Michael Kennedy, Lecturer in Sustainable Management from the LaTrobe Business School, La Trobe University, was our special guest on the day.
Dr Kennedy toured the Senior Campus, met our Teach the Teacher students and thoroughly enjoyed learning about the amazing student leadership opportunities on offer. Michael also spoke to some VCE Business Management classes about the challenges and opportunities of young people in the digital revolution and a changing employment environment. He spoke of the need for young people to develop transferrable skills such as critical thinking, problem solving and interpersonal skills.In the afternoon he enjoyed a tour of the Junior Campus visiting many classes.
Senior Stage Band takes Second Prize
Special thanks to Mr Nathan Liow and Ms Tijtje Ellis who accompanied our Senior Stage Band when they attended the South Street Competition in Ballarat on Friday 15 September. This was the first time our Senior Stage Band has performed at this prestigious competition, which is attended by schools from all over Victoria.
The Senior Stage Band, which comprises students from Years 8 to 12, came second overall to Eltham Secondary College. Congratulations all of the students in this ensemble for achieving such excellent results in this highly regarded event.

MWSC Gala Concert
Last night I had the pleasure of attending the Gala Concert which is one of the highlights of the school year. I was so proud to see our students perform with such joy and dedication. I was particularly proud to see our Year 7 students perform who have been learning their instruments since February.
The following college ensembles, with students from every year level, performed at this concert, demonstrating the hard work and dedication our music students and staff put into preparing for this event:
|Chamber String Ensemble||Junior String Ensemble|
|Senior Guitar Ensemble||Junior Guitar ensemble|
|Percussion Ensemble||Junior Choir|
|Clarinet Ensemble||Training Band|
|VCE Guitar ensemble||Senior Stage Band|
|Concert Band||String Orchestra|
|Senior Choir||Symphonic Band|
I know that all members of the audience would have thoroughly enjoyed the evening’s entertainment. Congratulations to all of the students and staff involved on the night, and a special thank you to Ms Tijtje Ellis, our Director of Music, for all of her tireless work in this area.
